On the Way | Returning to Yunnan
Share
In the season when things begin again, we returned to Yunnan. We visited artisans across different regions — to see how they have been living, and what they are working on now.
Along the roads through Kunming, Chuxiong, Dali, and Baoshan, flowers have begun to appear, quietly, without intention.

We spent time with the people we often write about — weavers, dyers, and makers. Sitting in courtyards, or beside their looms, we listened to what the past months have brought.
New rhythms. New work.
These are people who live with their hands in the world. They are not “close to nature” in any romantic sense — they are simply part of it.
In the way that roots are of soil.
In the way that rivers are of rain.

Today, we share a few images from the road between these visits. Not of the work itself, but of the world in which the work lives.
Mountains in the distance.
Fields beginning to turn green.
Flowers growing on their own.

For those who live in cities, there may be something quietly enviable here —a life lived closer to the land, and a rhythm that moves a little more slowly.
