A cushion shaped from memory, stitched from care.

This pillow is made from vintage Miao embroidery panels combined with leather, bringing together two materials that carry time in different ways—softness that once held a child, and strength that now supports daily life.

The embroidered panel dates back 30–40 years, originally part of a traditional Miao baby carrier cloth, hand-stitched by mothers for their children. Among the Miao, embroidery is more than decoration—it is a way of recording memory, belief, and lineage in the absence of a written language.

Within the composition, symbols unfold quietly.

A circular form at the center reflects the sun, with flowers blooming inside—an image of life flourishing under its light. Symmetrical butterfly motifs recall the Butterfly Mother, a primordial ancestor figure representing protection, continuity, and origin. Along the sides, forms resembling open hands—often interpreted as Buddha’s hand flowers—carry wishes of blessing, longevity, and protection, as if shielding the child once wrapped within it.

These patterns were not drawn, but remembered—passed from mother to daughter, stitched slowly into cloth that would accompany a child’s earliest years.

Over time, the textile was preserved, not discarded. Now, it is reassembled into a new form—no longer carried on the body, but resting in the home.

The leather structure gives the cushion a grounded presence, while the vintage embroidery remains visibly soft and expressive, holding traces of its earlier life.

Placed in a living space, it becomes more than an object of comfort. It carries forward a quiet intention—what once protected a child, now softly holding the space where you pause.

The embroidery is created using traditional Miao flat stitching and split-thread techniques.
Dense, layered stitches and naturally aged colors give the surface both depth and durability, remaining vivid even after decades of use.

• Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and moisture
